Knit. Purl. Knit. Purl. Knit…., 2011

Knit. Purl. Knit. Purl. Knit…. is a textile project that go along with my study in silence. The fabric is hand-knitted with alpaca yarns, with felted wool forming the triangular shapes on the fabric. This is a very special medium to me, because it gives the warmth and softness that no other material can produce.

I use fine alpaca yarns, one of the softest animal fibres, with stockinette stitch pattern, to finish the knitting. The stockinette stitch is a basic pattern that I am able to execute mindlessly, allowing this repetitive body motion to separate from a wandering mind and the sound from the surrounding.

I mount the knitted fabric pieces on a stretched canvas frame because I see them as equivalent to my paintings. The canvas frame supports the fabric from behind, so the viewers are welcome to touch the surfaces, and experience the sensations I felt during the process of creating the work.
