Here, There and Everywhere, 2011-Present

When I was 15 years old, I decided to become a software engineer as my lifetime career. Ten years later, I had successfully become one, however, life was overwhelmed by work, and left little time for my inner life. I questioned if that was all I wanted to be, or I wanted more. I did not know the answer as the internal voice was muted by the mundane typing sounds on the keyboard.

Here, There and Everywhere is a series of sky paintings, composed of references to modern architecture that I encountered in the past few years. The sky has been an important element in my life, that effectively calm my mind. Through these paintings, I want to invite viewers to look at the sky and enjoy the quiet moment together.

Silence does not have to be blank or monochromatic, it can be colorful and cheerful. It is not as primitive as we might think to experience inert silence, especially for people living in the concrete forest. With the color variances in my work, I want to remind the viewers that it would be delightful to give ourselves a pause, and once again to listen to the voice from within.

Cumulus is a series of sky photographs taken with Diana camera on instant films, which limits the post-processing of the resulting image to reflect the spontaneity of the sky. Knit. Purl. Knit. Purl. Knit.... is a hand-knitted project with alpaca fabric finished in stockinette stitch, a pattern that I am able to execute mindlessly, allowing this repetitive body motion to separate from a wandering mind.
