She & Me, 2011

I use the medium of paint to visualize my thoughts and to investigate my inner self. Starting with a simple subject or an imaginative image, I build up the background and details of a narrative image from my imagination. My decisions are intrinsic and arbitrary at the same time.

My paintings often end up as unexpected contradictions between the moods and feelings I intended to carry out, and the actual thing they become. This conflict fascinates me because it implies that my subconscious took over the process at some point.

I use acrylic paints as my primary medium because they dry rapidly, allowing me to add and take away ideas very quickly. I use a wide range of colors to mimic the ethereal and imaginary world that I want to draw the audience into.
